Bio

Motown/Soul Wedding and Corporate Big Band The Dionnes were formed in 2012 by a group of professional musicians united by a love of Motown.

They initially focussed on the Berry Gordy era of the 1960’s and the hits of The Supremes, The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas etc. Inspired by the look and sound of the girl groups of the era, and wanting to make a statement in terms of presentation, soon every gig became a ‘show’.

Fronted by three female singers, The Dionnes are fully ‘in character’ from the moment they step on the stage. Straight outta Detroit they rock american accents and killer moves, keeping the audience engaged with their light-hearted banter. Presentation is key, and their flawless three part harmonies, bodacious beehives, and surprise costume changes bring theatricality to every performance.

The singers are backed by a full live band including brass section (trumpet and saxophone) when required. Audience participation is actively encouraged with dance moves faithfully copied in ‘Land of 1000 dances’ and ‘Shake a Tail Feather’! Kitted out in monochrome mini dresses The Dionnes quickly created a name for themselves on the vintage scene in Dublin.

They made regular appearances at The Spectacular Vintage Wedding Fair, The Spring Vintage Fashion and Décor Fairs and at The Sugar Club, where they began to build up a loyal fan base. They are also perform regularly at vintage rallies and scooter events and are booked to perform at ‘The Wheels of Soul’ Festival in February this year.

A highlight was being invited to perform on the Body and Soul stage at Electric Picnic 2013. They have since expanded their set to include contemporary hits (performed with a Motown twist) and hits from the wider soul songbook. Everything from Ike and Tina, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes to Beyonce, Mark Ronson and Taylor Swift appears on the setlist. The Dionnes pride themselves on uniting generations on the dancefloor with music and performances that appeal to all age groups.

With consistent 5 star reviews and glowing feedback from clients The Dionnes are now one of the most sought after acts in Dublin, and form part of the roster at The Purty Kitchen, The Goat Pub, The Step Inn and The Raheny Inn to name but a few.

In Summer 2015 they were delighted to perform at ‘Dropboxygen’ a festival inspired event at The K Club for employees of Dropbox Ireland. They also headlined the celebrations of McCann-Fitzgerald Solicitors fiftieth birthday celebrations held at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham.
