Bio

Gerry Tully sings from his heart, a soulful and emotive performer interpreting songs from various genres.

He grew up in a musical family in the echo of the show band era. Impromptu performances and sessions were common at home and shone a light on a pathway of expression.

Gerry is self-taught, and has unique ability with rhythm and finger styles creating a powerful acoustic style that’s hard to match. He has years of experience and is an exceptional backing musician for players of Traditional Irish Music.

His live performance is a mix of originals and carefully chosen covers mixing Folk, Blues, and other soulful gems from the back streets of the music world.

It’s not unheard of for Gerry to swap between Tom Waits and Jimi Hendricks or Leonard Cohan and Luke Kelly, and make them his own. In 2008 Gerry released an album called Leaves Float Down, a collection of thirteen original songs, bringing a new eclectic sound and style to the market.

World renowned harmonica player Don Baker features on track 4 “News For You.” Track 2 on the album “True Love” was referred to by Hotpress magazine as “the closest thing to Christy Moore or Damian Dempsey bar none”.

Gerry continues experimenting with styles from all quarters of the musical landscape. He toured in Europe and America and appeared on national television.

He has supported Mary Coughlan, The Magic Numbers, Dervish, The Fureys, The Hothouse Flowers, Mundy, and The Dubliners. He featured on the Working Class Heroes Tour with Don Baker, Ronnie Drew, and Finbar Furey. Gerry gives something of himself to every song.

He defines himself as being steadfast and true, rare and delicate…and his music is real.
